InsideOut's Creative Director Damara Sylvester will be running a Pilot course for the last 4 Thursdays of the coming term (second school term 2019). A short series of workshops for youth ages 13-17yrs exploring an introduction to the rich and wonderful world of Physical Theatre.

A message from Damara:

'After 20+ years of working within performance and theatre contexts, I am convinced that theatre practice can be as much about raising consciousness and connection as it is about creating strong actors and interesting stories for the stage. For youth, the theatre training room can become a vital place for exploring identity, confidence and sense of place.

The type of training I'm offering is essentially about challenge and play co-existing. Both sides of the coin helping to both push our edges and delight in our strengths.

We'll be exploring the fundamentals of the Suzuki method of actor training, which, in a nutshell, is the "martial arts" of theatre training aimed at developing very strong presence and vitality; and the Viewpoints, which is a brilliant technique of building spontaneity, ensemble and movement vocabulary.

Being a pilot project, I will be seeing who is interested and who would be keen to commit to further learning with me in the following terms. Ongoing training would then include many other disciplines that fit under the physical theatre umbrella, such as Butoh dance theatre, circus, body percussion and voice.'
