Have you ever tried brushing your teeth using your other hand? Doesn’t it feel awkward? Many of the things that we do on a daily basis we do without thinking: our bodies do them automatically. But we may not be using our bodies in the best possible way, and any habitual pattern can give rise to strain and tension. By becoming aware of what we’re doing we can explore other more efficient options. In the process we may ease effort and pain, and learn our true potential in many aspects of life.
Awareness through Movement® classes were developed by Dr Moshe Feldenkrais and are now taught throughout the world. They are suitable for anyone, of any age or level of fitness – whether you’re an athlete or musician, whether you’re always on your feet or can no longer get to your feet.
Most of the movements (always slow and gentle) are done lying on the floor, so wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat or blanket to lie on. You might also want to bring a small towel to put under your head.
Bridget has been practising the Feldenkrais Method for twenty years, but started training as a practitioner in 2015. She’s now certified to teach classes and will complete her training next year.
