Come and join Tanja and Florian for another term of Inspire's teen classes at the Riverside Community Cultural Centre.
Young people 12 – 16 years old will have heaps of fun in term 3. Two left feet? No problem. Social anxieties? They have a habit of disappearing quickly in a friendly, fun based environment with upbeat music! Yes, there are moves to learn, and some techniques to explore - but mainly: everyone is here to have fun, feel good while moving and to make new friends.
Over the course of the 10 afternoons, we will explore the basics of Modern Jive (sometimes referred to as Ceroc) and get creative to a wide range of great songs. The lessons will be approximately 45 minutes long, leaving plenty of time for freestyle practice to a variety of music at the end. No partner, experience or special shoes required. And the best: we always end our term with a party!
Modern Jive is an easy to learn improv partner dance that can be danced to any music. Heavily influenced by Westcoast Swing, it is playful, adaptable and free flowing.
Florian and Tanja have been part of Inspire Dance (the Richmond based dance studio run by owners Stefan Miller and Joanna Copedo) since it's inception in 2019. Today, they teach adults in Richmond on a Monday night, compete throughout New Zealand and enjoy every minute of social dancing available.
Being home educating parents of 5, they believe that learning happens when kids are engaged, comfortable and free to express themselves. Tanja has been running a community based education program for 15 years and loves working with young people. Together, Florian and Tanja are looking forward to meeting you on the dance floor!
