About the Event
A basic sewing course for children (from 5 years old) and adults - that actually has a “no sew” option!
If you are looking for a productive and tactile activity to share with your child or other young person during the holidays, this one is for you. Making a bag from scratch is very satisfying, and achievable even for very young people – with some support and encouragement.
So, bring your young person (5 years and up), some fabric scissors and spend a couple of hours creating in in our hall. Walk home with a new tote-, shopping- or project bag to use at home or give to a friend.
Your tutor Sylvia Pfennighaus has lots of ideas and a wealth of experience with needle and thread – she will walk you through the process of turning fabric (either bring your own or choose from what we have gathered for you) into functional fashion :)
There will be some models to be inspired by if need be – or participants can completely freestyle their project. There will be a couple of sewing machines for general use and participants can also bring their own if they wish. As a bonus, Sylvia will show everyone an interesting option of making a bag that does not require any sewing but uses a series of knots to make a seam.
Limited to 10 children (and their accompanying adults). $10 per pair. Please note that payment of $10 is for one adult-child pair. If you come with your child, please only book one $10 spot. Booking essential.
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (education@riverside.org.nz) to discuss sponsorship options if you are struggling to meet the workshop fee or to enquire about more info.
