About the Event
Autumn is such a magical time of year – fallen leaves, acorns and pumpkins provide the perfect inspiration for getting crafty and creative. For children, this comes naturally; any park or sandpit will find little hands busy exploring and processing the colourful beauty that is so abundant this time of year.
Here at Riverside, we are always looking for new ideas to share – and this is one: dipping autumn leaves in melted wax to preserve their vibrant colours and then using wooden beads and bits of fluffy wool to turn them into semi-translucent fairies. Add a bit of gnarled driftwood, and tadaa: A unique autumn mobile to add colour to your home or to give away as a special gift.
In the interest of safety and to save some time, we will prepare the leaves beforehand and only demonstrate the waxing, focusing instead on the creation of the fairies and the preparation of the mobile.
Each participant will go home with their own one-of-a-kind piece of art.
This session is creative, 100% hands-on and not very messy. If you have a piece of driftwood or another natural feature item you would like to use to display your fairies (circular or linear), please bring it along.
Limited to 10 participants 5 years and older. An adult must accompany kids under 8 years old.
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja at education@riverside.org.nz to discuss sponsorship options if you are struggling to meet the workshop fee or to enquire about more info.
