About the Event

Teenagers especially will love making these macramé bracelets for their friends, but adults can enjoy them just as much. Friendship bracelets are still in, and macramé is certainly trending; not only for hanging baskets!

Tash and Tanja will show participants how to create simple macramé bracelets with beads and colorful threads. They may look complicated, but if you can tie a knot then you can master macramé! Macramé is a very old decorative knotting craft that anyone can do with just a little bit of practice! It is a great way to create beautiful and functional pieces of art to decorate your home with vintage flair. You have probably seen it many times before, perhaps without even noticing; in leather and fabric belts, jewellery, wall hanging, hanging baskets and...Tadaa!... friendship bracelets.

These macramé bracelets only use one type of macramé knot, the square knot. It’s the most basic knot but creates a strong braid, and you can still switch it up with different thicknesses and even a spiral.

After a few knots, you’ll get the hang out of it and feel like a pro! Keep playing with different thicknesses, colours and string types, and each macramé bracelet will look unique!

This session is creative, 100% hands-on and not at all messy :) Please note that this session will be held at Riverside Café.

Limited to 10 participants, 11 years and older. Bookings are essential. Bookings close Wednesday, 14th February at 2pm.

This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (at education@riverside.org.nz) for workshop questions or to ask about sponsorship options.
