About the Event
Here is another opportunity to spend some quality time with a young person in your life while learning about edible plants in your environment.
Kids tend to have a much closer connection to nature than us adults and often a keen interest in what is growing along the side of the path. Being able to identify what's edible and what's not is a very useful skill and empowers our children to move towards environmental awareness and self-sufficiency. Plus, it is fun!
Meet Tanja at the Centre and take a relaxed walk through our beautiful Riverside, gathering various edible plants (some you may think of as obnoxious weeds!). You will be surprised at what ends up in your basket :)
Make pesto from what you have gathered (we will provide supplementary ingredients), and finally, go for another walk to have a bonfire, cook some dampers and eat the pesto you just made on some crusty, fire-baked bread dough. Yum!
We will provide glutenous damper dough – if you are gluten-free, please bring your own. You will also need a basket, sunhat, water bottle and sensible shoes.
As we will spend 90% of the afternoon outside, this workshop will only go ahead if the weather is fine. Please note that this workshop is specifically for pairs of one child accompanied by one adult only.
Limited to 10 adult-child pairs. Bookings are essential. Bookings close Friday, 3rd November at 2pm.
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja (at education@riverside.org.nz) for workshop questions or to ask about sponsorship options.
