This theatre and movement class gives children the opportunity to develop expressive play in a safe and nurturing space. Drawing on years of training and teaching, Ruby guides children through games and exercises designed to stimulate the imagination, encourage confidence and discipline, and work on skills that can be taken from the drama world through into real life. These include storytelling, bodily awareness, teamwork, offering ideas, yielding ideas, readiness to get involved and acceptance of the offers of others. Kids involved in the class will gain a deep understanding of what it is to work as an ensemble, seeing the group as a team, and will expand their awareness as they learn to listen and respond with their whole bodies to one another. In this structure of learning, there are no mistakes, only offers!
Ruby has over six years training in physical theatre, and studied at 16th St Actors studio in Melbourne. She has worked with children in many environments, including classrooms, theatres, and holiday programs. Her belief is that all children should be empowered to believe in their own capabilities of growth, and that theatre is one of the best ways to put this belief into practice.
Her energetic and compassionate approach fosters an atmosphere of safety, acceptance, and a play where daring and trying new things is encouraged.
