Explore the wonderful world of music through musical games in a small group setting.

Movement-centred music classes engaging the body, voice, ear, senses, emotions, imagination and intellect.

Engage in an ‘active approach’ to music learning which introduces the elements of music through movement, singing and improvising. Understand the joys of music-making through lived-experience prior to specific instrumental study. Comprehensive music approach* which develops the person as a musician and the musician as a person.

This weekly music class is progressive in that, each week, students will build on previous learning; deepening their understanding of music through numerous and varied musical experiences. Through interactive engagement in songs, rhymes, musical games and creative improvisation; listening, movement and social skills are continually refined and extended.

Classes are carefully planned and evaluated each week, and new material sourced or written specifically for the presenting needs or interests of the children. Classes are underpinned by the active approach to music education known as Dalcroze Eurhythmics. The originator of this approach was Swiss composer and pianist Émile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950). The three strands of Dalcroze Eurhythmics- rhythmics, ear and voice and improvisation are woven within one hour-long weekly class.

Eurhythmics means ‘good rhythm’.

“Eurhythmics relates to general education by placing the emphasis on the development of the whole person. It also has specifically musical advantages as it introduces the study of music through active listening, and the use of the voice together with movement of the body. Movement and the voice are a child’s very first musical instruments.”(Elizabeth Vanderspar)

Commitment to, and payment for a term of classes is required at the start of term. 7 classes; $98.
