At Riverside Centre

April 13: 'Food Resilience with Fungi': 1:30 – 5pm.

Participants will learn how to grow their own mushrooms at home and how to continue their spawn batches so they can continue to produce mushrooms on a home scale at a very low cost. Participants will make their own mushroom grow kits and spawn to take home. The workshop cost is $80pp, and afternoon tea will be provided.

April 27: ‘Intermediate Level Mushroom Cultivation’: 1:30 – 5pm.

A follow-on workshop for those who have previously attended one of our introductory level food resilience with fungi courses or who have a proficient level of mushroom cultivating experience and basic knowledge of fungi ecology. The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Mushroom growing on logs (using a native shiitake strain)

  • How to clone and store fungi via liquid culture method (Pekepeke-kiore, native lionsmane)

  • Preparing your own dowels for log-growing

We will skip a lot of the basic theory (fungi ecology) that participants would have already learned in the food resilience with fungi workshop. Participants will get their own jar containing liquid culture to take home, as well as the log they have made. The course cost is $100. Afternoon tea will be provided. Places are limited, so pre-purchase of your spot is required.
