3-day Women's Hui endorsed by the Housing Innovation Society
Thursday to Saturday, 6th to 8th November
At Riverside Centre
The Women Revolutionising Housing Hui is a three-day gathering for women passionate about transforming the housing landscape in Aotearoa or who have a strong desire to be part of a participatory housing development or connected neighbourhood. Set in the beautiful Riverside Community near Motueka, this hui offers an immersive, collaborative, and inspiring space for women to connect, learn, and co-create practical solutions for affordable, sustainable, and community-focused housing.
Rooted in the legacy of women’s collective action—like the suffrage movement that reshaped our nation—this hui invites women to once again join forces to drive systemic change. Through workshops, presentations, creative activities, and strategy sessions, participants will explore the interconnected challenges of affordability, access, and belonging in housing. Together, we’ll unpack proven models such as cohousing, cooperative housing, community land trusts, and circular economy villages—approaches that reimagine housing as a foundation for wellbeing, not profit.
Facilitated by experienced leaders in housing innovation—including Robin Allison (Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood), Simone Woodland (Circle Living), Robina McCurdy (Tui Community), and others—the hui blends deep learning with creative exploration, outdoor and somatic activities, and nourishing plant-based food. It’s a space for women to both vision and act—to strategise, form partnerships, and build momentum for housing systems that work for people and planet. And also to nourish themselves with social and playful activities that revitalise the spirit and celebrate our whole selves.
The hui culminates in the Housing Futures Forum and Building Belonging Playback Theatre performance, opening the conversation to a wider audience of professionals, community leaders, and allies.
Endorsed by The Housing Innovation Society, this not-for-profit event is about more than discussion—it’s about building the networks, skills, and shared purpose to shape a housing future led by women, grounded in care, and powered by collaboration.
