At Riverside Clay Play Club

Curious if pottery could be for you?

It isn’t just kids who love diving into clay—most adults discover they enjoy the tactile, creative, and calming process too. Why not try something new and see if you want to explore clay further? This is a great chance to dip a toe into clay work, perhaps joining Clay Club or arranging private wheel lessons later. The sessions are open, so you can make whatever you’re drawn to.

The emphasis is on handbuilding, with occasional chances to tackle the wheel during the eight weeks. Handbuilding is grounding, soothing, rhythmic, and creative, while wheelwork brings excitement, challenge, and a sense of accomplishment. Tanja guides participants to feel the clay and craft something that’s truly theirs.

The course is entirely hands-on and a touch messy, so dress for clay. You may take finished pieces home right away; bring a sturdy box or board. Unfired work keeps, but cannot get wet, and is relatively fragile and a bit dusty. Alternatively, you can leave pieces for Tanja to fire at an extra cost. Note that the process takes some time (sometimes up to 4 weeks).
