This month our parent and child workshop centres around weaving with sustainable materials. Make some time for a special young person in your life (it doesn't have to be your child) and come along to learn how to weave a Catalan tray.
These woven trays are wonderfully functional for displaying Bread and Cheese or fruit or to use as grazing boards. They are often woven with willow on hefty hazel or willow hoops, giving them a chunky, substantial feel. They sometimes have willow stitching around the edge, which makes them strong and gives them a neat finish. Traditionally though, people used all kinds of weavable plant material.
In this beginner's weaving workshop, kids and their adults will use a mix of natural foraged materials; An eclectic collection of twigs that are easy to use and make for attractive looking baskets.
Weaving requires patience, creativity, and attention to detail, all skills that can be developed at any age. And by working together, it can foster a deeper sense of connection and teamwork while also learning a valuable sustainable skill.
The Catalan trays look lovely displayed on the wall when unused or as a centrepiece on your table.
This weaving workshop will take place outside if the weather allows, but we have a heated indoor space if it is too wet or cold on the day.
Limited to 6 adult-child pairs. Bookings essential: Book Now
