Creating with clay by hand is a magical experience. One moment you have a sticky lump, and with squeezing, rolling, or pinching, it transforms into a beautiful piece of art or a practical object like a bowl, cup, or plate. Children especially relish the tactile, sensory, and mental flow of shaping wet clay into something funny, intriguing, or aesthetically pleasing. The handbuilding and wheelwork process is gentle, eco-friendly, grounding, calming, and also stimulating and inspiring. In this beginner-friendly workshop, Tanja guides kids to discover the feel of clay and craft whatever they imagine.
While the focus will be on handbuilding, older children may want to try out the wheel.
The session is completely hands-on, creative, and a bit messy—so dress for mess. Clay stains can sometimes resist washing from fabrics, so plan accordingly. You may take your child’s work home immediately, bringing a sturdy box or board if needed. Unfired pieces can be kept but are fragile and dusty and cannot get wet. You may also opt to have pieces fired by Tanja; the first firing is included in the workshop fee, with glazing and gloss firing available at extra cost. The firing process may take several week
This workshop will take place in our Clay Play Club, access off Community Road, opposite our milk vending shed.
