Pottery is the art or craft of making objects (like dishes and vases, but also sculptures in many forms) out of clay.
There is nothing that feels quite like having your hands in clay. The tactile experience of kneading, shaping, and decorating what is essentially a piece of our earth, is grounding and calming... people of all ages are drawn to it. If you have ever squished a ball of clay in your hands, you understand what I mean :)
It is a physical-sensual-mental experience that doesn't require words. The physicality and limitless potential for creativity engages our muscles, fine motor skills, vision, and imagination – it is gentle and forgiving. And kids love it.
Tanja and Faline will help participants in this introductory workshop to gain a feel for the clay, create a simple plate and personalise it.
This session is creative, 100% hands-on and potentially very messy – please dress your children accordingly :) Clay stains may not wash out of some fabrics.
This workshop is proudly sponsored by the Riverside Community Trust. Please contact Tanja at education@riverside.org.nz to discuss sponsorship options if you are struggling to meet the workshop fee or to enquire about more info.
